Guide on Mastering Roulette Payouts & Odds
Roulette is a popular online casino game with a lot of different bets that gamblers can use to try and win real money. This makes the game more interesting since gamblers have a lot of options, especially since they can combine their bets to try and improve their chances of winning. Each bet will have its respective roulette odds and payouts, with some roulette variations offering different payouts and odds.
What are Roulette Payouts and odds?
The two most popular roulette variations are European and American Roulette with the main difference between the two is that European Roulette lacks the American variation’s double zero. The house edge in American Roulette is 5.26% while the house edge in European Roulette is 2.7%, which means that it’s naturally easier to win in European Roulette than in the American variation.
|Bet||Payout||European Odds||American Odds|
|Basket (Four-Number with 0)||6:1||10.8%||–|
|Five-Number (Basket with 00)||6:1||–||13.2%|
|Red or Black||1:1||48.65%||47.37%|
|Odd or Even||1:1||48.65%||47.37%|
|High or Low||1:1||48.65%||47.37%|
Based on the table above, the odds of winning bets in European Roulette are better than the odds in American Roulette. This is because of American Roulette’s double zero that even affects the odds of a Straight Up bet. In European Roulette, the odds to win are 36:1 because of the 37 pockets while in American Roulette’s odds are 37:1 because of the 38 pockets while the payout remains 35:1. Based on this alone, playing European Roulette is far better due to better odds overall.
Besides the odds and payouts above, gamblers will encounter other odds when playing other roulette variations, like Double Ball Roulette.
Double Ball Roulette Odds and Payouts
Because of the two balls in Double Ball Roulette, an Evolution Gaming exclusive roulette, the payouts of the standard bets are different from those provided by European, American, and French Roulette. Below is a table of the inside bets and their respective payouts:
The most notable feature of Double Ball Roulette is that it launches two balls instead of one. Because of this, both payouts and odds are lowered when compared to European Roulette. This makes it easier to win inside bets since gamblers are paid out even if only one ball lands in a pocket they bet on.
|Inside Bet||Payout when only one ball lands on the pocket||Payout when both balls land on one pocket|
|Straight Up Bet||17:1||34:1|
Outside bets also have different payouts compared to the outside bets in other tables. The payout and odds are higher because both balls will need to land on the pockets covered by the specific outside bet. The only difference is the Red and Black Bet which lets gamblers win when the balls land on red and black.
|Odd or Even Bet||3:1|
|Red or Black Bet||3:1|
|1-18 or 19-36 Bet||3:1|
|Red and Black Bet||1:1|
Double Ball Roulette also has other bets available that are only exclusive to it, including the Red and Black outside bet above. The other exclusive bets are the following:
|2 Balls Chosen Same Number||1300:1|
|2 Balls in Any Same Number||35:1|
All of the payout values listed above are close to the odds of winning them and the payout for several of the bets is lowered because the odds themselves are lower. 2 Balls Chosen Same Number is similar to a standard Straight Up bet or placing a Straight Up bet and the two balls land in the same pocket, except that the gambler this time intentionally bets on both balls landing on the same pocket. Due to how unlikely this outcome is, the bet is considered a jackpot bet with a 1300:1 payout. The 2 Balls in Any Same Number can be considered a standard Straight Up bet when playing European Roulette, except that the number is chosen by random.
Is it Possible to Improve the Odds of Winning at Roulette?
Gamblers cannot do anything to influence a roulette table’s odds and reduce the house edge, unlike when practicing Basic Strategy or counting cards in Blackjack to lower the house edge. The only thing that gamblers can do is to cover as many numbers as they can while ensuring that they still win real money or to stick to roulette variations with lower house edges and lower odds.
Sticking to European Roulette is a must when aiming to win more often due to the lower roulette odds, but opting for Evolution Gaming’s Double Ball Roulette variation may be better to get paid out more often thanks to the lower payouts and odds from the two balls at play. Gamblers can try using roulette betting systems to try and improve their odds, but the only thing they can do is limit their losses.
The odds of winning roulette will vary per roulette variation and roulette bet and European Roulette is by far the best variation that pays out well. Double Ball Roulette may pay out more frequently, but its outside bets pay out less and the inside bets beside Red and Black have higher odds.
